important little things

So today is Friday!May I announce that my cooking has been getting better and better, even more so, recently!Doug and I were really curious about the Eye of Round steak...which is like the cheapest cut of meat you can get because...it's the butt! Its supposed to be a little tough, especially if you over cook it but we were confident- or more like I was confident.

That is what we had for dinner on Wednesday night. Eye of Round steak with sauteed mushrooms and onions topping it, lightly buttered broccoli and corn and scalloped potatoes. Yesterday, I made lemon pepper chicken, white rice and roasted corn with a side of guacamole and chips. Ugh, I think that's been my favorite so far. Anyway, I'm beating around the bush!

On Wednesday, my little neechan, Vanessa drove to Kingsville! I'm a little surprised she did because I know she had her reservations about driving on her own up here but she made it and then I made her breakfast! We took off to Corpus Christi at around noon almost and first stop was the Sunrise Mall- to the Bridal Boutique & After 5. (idk! that's what it's called!) This is where I had initially fallen "in love" with a pink Mary's dress. It was $828...beautiful, A-line dress with cap sleeves. I didn't try that one on again but I tried on a different pink one that was a ball gown type dress. It definitely was more princess-y that I would like and was a NO. After that, we looked for a place called an Affair to Remember but couldn't find it. I don't think it exists anymore.I looked up more shops online and next closest place was Young's Discount Bridal. The conceited bride in me was snooty in my head and was like, "discount?!" although I know not very deep down, I LOVE me some discounts.I had some doubts about coming into this store because initially when we parked, I saw some of the dresses that were on display on the mannequins through the window. I was already turned off. They were like, not modest, flashy and all blingy. Ew. We went in and were pleasantly greeted by Young, the Asian lady who runs the store. We told her we were interested in wedding dresses. Initially she asked us if we could come back Saturday because the lady who helps with the wedding dresses would be back then. We nodded and were on our way out. (Yea, let's get outta here!!) She stopped us and said we could check out what she had on the floor and then she said she could show us the back stock. We followed her with some hesitation because what we had seen on the floor was not very convincing. She has a lot of prom dresses. We followed her to the back, while she hobbled in front of us, sharing she had broken her tiny toe, that's initially why she had said she couldn't help us in the first place.
She let us look thru the dresses in her back warehouse and strangely enough, out of a lot of ugly ducklings, one dress stuck out to me. It was a couple of sizes too big but we agreed I should try it on.She gave me my space and let me try it on.I REALLY liked the dress. I really LOVED the price. It's a dress that was initially marked in the $1300 range then reduced to $800 something and was now marked down further to $499.The brand was Christina Wu. ( I don't know about brands, honestly.)
We told her we just wanted to check out one other place and she said something like, "You be back, baby. This is the cheapest you will find." I mean, in my head, I was like, "this dress is so cute and comfy! But is this how it's supposed to feel?" I mean, I've tried on so many dresses...it's scary to imagine that you MIGHT have found the ONE even though you weren't actually expecting to...
Anyway, she was right, lol. I wanted to check David's Bridal, but obviously, I knew everything would be more expensive there. But I needed to make sure! We picked out three dresses, all pretty different. There was a lot of dresses that I ended up loving ONE thing about it and wished I could add that one thing to another dress. I mean, none of them were perfect and I didn't feel comfortable in any of them. The chick that helped us though, Heather, I thought was really nice and sweet! We went back to Young and when we walked in, she says, "You're back, baby!" Lol. She was sweet and funny with us the whole time. She made jokes and talked to us about herself and her family. I even tried speaking to her in Korean and failed..haha. I guess it couldn't hurt to learn the basic words. The only thing she understood that I said was, "de" which is "yes." Lulz. After a little more deliberation and pep talk with Vanessa, I decided! I was like, "Let's do it! And let's get food, i'm hungry!"
Young rung me up and ended up charging me $433. I was surprised. I mean, she gave me an extra discount which I sorta questioned her on and she was like, "what, you don't want it?!" Haha...she tied a tiny little pink string on it so my fiancee wouldn't be able to sneak a peak...and if he did, I would know. (I mean, Doug would never but it was a cute idea she had.) She hugged us both and I felt happy that we had shopped there with her. I guess it helped that we had her and the shop all to ourselves when we had gone in both times.
Ahhhh...but alas! This has been the story of how I bought my wedding dress!!!!!!
I wonder if I forgot any important details. I'm sure neechan can/will let me know if I did.

  1. You forgot to mention how completely helpful & knowledgeable I was.
lolol, I actually got a litttle lost coming back vs going over there. Dumbbb.
I think it helps that you're not a glittery-loving, blingy type of gal so your dress really doess suit you, and there's not much we need to add, if anything, to make it more "you." we just needa find the perfect shoes/accessories. Minimal!

    I miss Young. ;<
