Day 2 of 2

So this week I finally took on subbing!
(I feel like for a lot of things, I'm usually late on the scene... in this case too..)

On Tuesday, I went in to H.M. King High School to sub for a SCU aide. I knew SCU was special education- self contained unit- but I wasn't one hundred percent sure what that consisted of!
Turns out, I got to shadow some kids around to their classes. They were SpEd kids but higher functioning than others...but still needing more help than the non SpEd kids.
I really enjoyed it ...the girl I got to shadow around the most was really sweet and helpful. I'd ask her where I was supposed to go or do with them and she'd help me out. I learned all their names pretty quick and asked them all a bunch of questions. I got to color with some of them in art class and right after play frisbee with them. Watched them enjoy themselves among all the other kids in the cafeteria. They sat at their own table but they ate their lunch and laughed with each other without caring about anything else going on around them.
I even got to go with one kid to his mariachi class. I loved it.
I networked a bit and got a teacher to book me for her the next day!

Thursday, I signed up to sub at the same school/same class again but I got turned away.
Doug had already been told to not show up to school because of a water issue at his school but apparently it was a district wide thing. According to emails and district website, school was cancelled because of water contamination in the city of Corpus Christi and we probably were affected too. It was pretty creepy and I even felt iffy because I had taken a shower that morning and brushed my teeth and we were told to not use the tap water for anything at all for any reason whatsoever! CREEPY.
Anyway, Kingsville got cleared later that day and finally Doug and I got out of bed and washed our hands. :p

Today, I went to Kleberg Elementary! I love elementary school setting..it is just so cute and the students are so cute too! They seriously make me smile...for the most part!
These kids were also so cute and easy to work with. One of them was like.."Miss, why is your hair brown there and then it's like blonde and like a different color?"
The other one is like, "She just has colorful hair!" like it was the most obvious thing. And I nodded.
It was the Friday before Christmas break so it was pretty simple and easy. I sat with four higher functioning boys and helped them make Christmas puppets of Mrs. Clause and an elf. I talked with them and helped them stay on task. They were super sweet and well behaved though...they didn't give me any trouble. I networked there also and gave my number to two of the ladies there too! (They asked for it.) They told me they'd definitely tell me when they needed me back because they knew I liked working with those kids.

Anyway, my back hurts and I wanna go lay in bed!
More later, maybe!
